Resources for Ulcerative Colitis

Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA)
is by far the most informative site on the Internet. It offers a lot of great articles that cover common problems associated with ulcerative colitis that do not usually get the attention needed to help people who are suffering with this horrible medical condition.

CCFA offers live help during certain hours to help those people with questions that are not fully answered by the site. This is an awesome resource to use because the representatives are knowledgeable in all aspects of ulcerative colitis. They offer free tele-conferences as well that are open to professionals as well as the general public. They only ask that you register in advance so they can have an attendance number.

National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse
(NDDIC) is a very informative site. Unlike some of the other sites about ulcerative colitis, NDDIC talks in normal people terms instead of in hard to understand medical terms. This site is links to other resources. It has information on all the current research going on about ulcerative colitis. It also has up to date information about many aspects of ulcerative colitis.

Web MD
is a very easy to understand site. It is a little to navigate sometimes. They have great articles although some of the articles do repeat things found in other articles. One of my favorites on this site is how to tell the difference between ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. They also have an article about how to distinguish between IBS and IBD. This site has some very good diet suggestions.

Up To Date Patient Information
is a very technical site. Some of the terminology is not easy to understand. There is some very good information on this site once you figure out how to read through the medical jargon. They have some good nutritional information and some very good links to both professional and general links.

Mayo Clinic
has some very good information about ulcerative colitis. The information is cutting edge because the Mayo Clinic is one of the main places that is doing research on ulcerative colitis. The information on this site is broken down into easy to navigate topics such as Self Care, Coping Ideas and Alternative Medicine Techniques.
